SA HIV prevention to get shot in the arm

Hopes of eradicating HIV run high as the latest and greatest HIV vaccine trial heads to SA.
The Star and online news provider health-e report that the RV144 vaccine met with unprecedented success in trials conducted in Thailand.
Results showed that the vaccine could prevent HIV infection by approximately 30 percent.
But South African trials will probably only begin in 2014 because the vaccine needs to be tailored to the form of HIV (subtype C) prevalent in the country.
The vaccine used in Thailand only targeted the E and B HIV subtypes specific to that region.
